چکیده
T HE maximum number of sperm which can be obtained by ejaculating domestic mammals apparently is less than the number produced by the testes (Amann and Almquist, 1962a, b; Kennelly and Foote, 1964; OrgebinCrist, 1968). The fate of unejaculated sperm is uncertain. Koefoed-Johnsen (1964) and Lino et al. (1967) showed that bulls and rams eliminate some sperm through micturition or masturbation. However, the number of sperm voided in the urine may be a small percentage of the production. Simeone and Young ( 1931 ), Kennelly (1960) and KoefoedJohnsen (1964) concluded that most unejaculated sperm are resorbed in the excurrent duct system. Amann and Almquist (1962a) postulated that the rate of sperm resorption was variable and increased as the number of sperm in the cauda epididymidis increased. For rabbits, 64% of the sperm stored in the caudae epididymides and ductuli deferentia were collected in four successive ejaculates (Kirton et al., 1967). I f the above postulate of Amann and Almquist (1962a) is correct, the rate of sperm resorption should be minimal after such a drastic reduction of the number of sperm in the caudae epididymides. Similarly, if the rate of resorption increases as the number of sperm in the caudae is restored, the net rate of refilling ultimately should_ decrease and differ markedly from the rate of sperm production. The objectives of these studies with rabbits were to determine: (a) the influence of ejaculation on sperm reserves and (b) if the rate of sperm accumulation in the epididymis is variable after collection of 10 successive ejaculates.

Effect of Vitamin C, as an Antioxidant, on Immobilization-Induced Changes in Sexual Behavior and Sperm Count in Male Mice
Sexual behavior in males is vulnerable to stress and it has been suggested that alterations in sexual behavior during stress is concomitant with spermatogenesis dysfunction. In this study, we investigated the effects of immobilization on sexual behavior and whether or not these effects are accompanied by changes in spermatogenesis process. The effect of antioxidant treatment on the sexual behav...
متن کاملP-61: Inhibitory Effect of Simultaneous Exposure to Formaldehyde Vapour and Noise on Mouse Sperm Kinematic Parameters and Sexual Hormones
Background: This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of simultaneous formaldehyde (FA) and noise exposure on the sperm kinematic parameters sexual hormones in male mice. Materials and Methods: Forty eight NMRI adult male mice were randomly assigned to control group and experimental groups which were exposed to formaldehyde vapour (10 ppm) (F), noise (100 dB) (N), and simultaneous ...
متن کاملP-76: Effects of Concurrent Ethanol and Saccharin Consumption on Sperm Parameters in Adult Mice
Background: Since sperm parameters have a critical role in reproductive function, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of concomitant ethanol and saccharin consumption on sperm parameters in adult mice. Chronic ethanol consumption suppresses male reproductive function and sexual behavior in laboratory animals and humans. Furthermore, alcohol abuse by males has been correlated...
متن کاملHuman Sperm Aster Formation and Chromatin Configuration in Rabbit Oocytes Following Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Using a Piezo-Micromanipulator
In human fertilization, the sperm centrosome nucleates a radial array of microtubules called the sperm aster. The sperm aster is responsible for apposition of male and female pronuclei, and later gives rise to the first meiotic spindle. The objective of this study was to determine microtubule assembly and chromatin configuration in rabbit oocytes following intracytoplasmic injection with human ...
متن کاملP-2: Evaluation of Epididymal Sperm Quality, DNA Damage and Sperm Maturation Abnormality in Streptozotocin- induced Diabetic Mice
Background: Diabetes mellitus, a condition of chronic hyperglycemia, represents one of the greatest concerns to modern global health. Diabetes is a serious metabolic disorders with numerous complications. It is well known that, elevation of blood glucose levels leads to structural and functional changes in various target tissues and organs. The objective of the present study was to verify if th...
